Bear Glacier, British Columbia
Bear Glacier is one of only a few glaciers readily visible (within a few hundred meters) from a highway in Canada. It is the northernmost outlet glacier of the Cambria Icefield in the Coast Mountains of northwest British Columbia and is the site of Bear Glacier Provincial Park. In the early 20th century Bear Glacier extended to where Highway 37A now sits. Since then Bear Glacier has receded significantly, first revealing Strohn Lake, then, in recent years, pulling away from it onto bedrock. Bear Glacier was a setting in the movie Insomnia, starring Al Pacino, Robin Williams, and Hilary Swank.
